Since the founding of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra in 1051, it has been the beating heart of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe. Easter has been celebrated there since the 11th Century, and I was fortunate to witness the ritual in the monastery’s Dormition Cathedral in 2019, before the storm of war engulfed the Lavra in political turmoil.
